Hi, I’m Sushma!

I’m a self-taught artist, educator, and author living in a small town in the small country of Luxembourg with my husband. I love painting flowers and landscapes from my light-filled studio, which overlooks beautiful green rolling hills, fields and colourful houses.

I grew up in India, and as a kid I spent a lot of time in the rural parts of South India, watching my family work in the fields, playing hide and seek in the tropical forests, running around chasing butterflies, and talking to trees like they were my best friends.

Moving to Germany had a huge impact on my creative journey. After being immersed in the noise of technology for many years, the move to a small village in Germany brought me closer to nature and reminded me how spectacular and healing nature is.
There was flora that I had not seen before, and seasons that I had never experienced before. Travelling and exploring the rural side of Europe gave me the inspiration to start painting and express my love for nature.

While I spent most part of my day being an engineer, working on cars, in the evening I would take up the role of an artist, learning to paint something new each day. After almost a decade of being in the engineering field, I recently decided to follow my passion for painting and pursue art full time.
When I am not painting, I enjoy going on long walks into the forests or beautiful hills near our house, documenting the changes in nature with pictures, spotting new wildflowers, collecting treasures and memories along the way, or taking notes for the next painting!

I share process videos of my paintings, behind the scenes in my studio, clicks from my morning walks and travels, and more on Instagram @sushhegde.
